A Volunteer's Story

Volunteer Spotlight
“A gentle touch on my shoulder,
A whispered prayer for all my tears;
A non-judgmental compassion that wiped away my fears.
The reason I surrendered, was a love patiently sown;
The reason I surrendered, was a love I’d never known.”

Jesus Christ, the greatest love of all, provides the gracious environment for surrender at Mama’s House.  Vulnerable women come at a crucial turning point.  Pregnant with child and a tinderbox of distrust, fear, disappointment and hopelessness they choose not to let their life and their baby’s life go up in flames of destruction.  Instead, they surrender to the refining fire which leads to a new life full of hope.  During this developmental phase the expectant mother participates with staff and counselors to plan, implement and evaluate what should be done as well as how.

The concept of surrendering our will to Christ’s will is a difficult choice, therefore, a mentor who is committed to Bible study and a personal prayer life is assigned.  The three-strand cord of Christ, Mentor and Mentee provides the strength to live an intentional life.  A Mentor in Christ comes alongside the Mentee to provide support and encouragement by listening, seeking and sharing the wisdom of the Word, praying together and simply sharing life experiences.

Mentors at Mama’s House are sowers knowing that God is responsible for the results.  Ephesians 3 is my prayer for all mentees who by faith invite Christ to dwell in their heart; that they might be “rooted and grounded in God’s love” and that they “will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power” that comes from a surrendered life to God the Father. To Him be the glory!
