A Letter from Our Residents on Volunteer Appreciation Day

Celebrated at our Coffee Club on April 21, 2023

Dear Mama’s House Volunteers,

Today is a very special day because we get to celebrate all the big and little things you do for us. You take immensely good care of us by sharing your gifts, attention, talents, and time. As well as, sharing your wisdom, love, and care. You make us feel very special by sacrificing your time. You have been here for us when we have needed you the most. You treat us all like your family, and you treat us with equality. The moments we get to spend with you are very special. We see God’s love and compassion through you, a kind of love and kindness that is not only seen but felt by each and every one of us.

Thanking you today is not enough, but we all want you to know how much you are loved and cherished by us and all of our children. You have helped us be more confident and courageous. You’ve helped us accomplish our goals and aspirations. You have taught us how to believe in ourselves, whenever any doubt creeps into our mind. You have helped us to trust that no matter what happens in any particular situation, that we will be able to handle it and learn from the outcome.

It motivates us to see and know how much we are loved and cared for by you. One of the things that fills our hearts with joy is knowing that we can trust you with our children, as they are eager and happy to see you. You make our children feel welcome by accepting them with your warm and gentle heart. We trust you with our kids and know that they are being cared for better than any daycare, or anyone else. This gives us such a wonderful sense of security. You’re always interested in all of us, and so respectful. This makes us feel seen and valued.

Without your help, we would not be able to go to our doctor's appointments, self-defense training, Hope Center classes, social gatherings, parks, movies, and also have time for our self-care. We also see how you take time to do devotions with us, making them really special, by teaching us the Word of God in a loving way.

There are so many things we love about you. You portray so much love, strength, and peace when you are here. You teach us to be good mothers and have self-worth. You are so dedicated and selfless. You politely teach us to get along with each other and show us what it means to be respected. You show us how considerate you are of us. By your example, we are learning how to love each other well, and become better people. This helps us to be better moms and be more equipped to teach our children. We thank God that there are kind and good-hearted people like you. We are so blessed and grateful for you. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

We would like to share with you some of our experiences, we have all had mentors, teachers, and volunteers. Here goes:

The first time we met our mentors, we automatically CLICKED. We had so many things in common, and just felt so comfortable and loved. Although it was a new experience, it was very exciting, and we were so grateful to meet someone that would lead us in a positive way and teach us how to have a healthy lifestyle and positive recovery. Our mentors are always patient, loving, and kind. WE feel so loved and cared for.

When we first met our teachers, we were so eager to learn new things and set new goals. We now know and see how education is crucial and necessary for our future. What you are teaching us, prepares us for the future, helping us to become more independent. We appreciate all the knowledge that you share with us. You believe in us, even when we have doubted ourselves.

The first time someone prayed for us, we felt God’s presence and peace. We all feel closer to God. This is an experience we have never felt before. It made us feel loved and cared for and it confirmed our decision to come to Mama’s House. This by far has been the best decision we have made for ourselves and for our children. We now know prayer is POWERFUL, and that God IS there for us when we need Him the most. It is such a comforting feeling to know that you all have such a strong faith, and strong convictions. This has helped us grow our confidence in God, knowing He is always working in our favor even when we cannot see it.

We are also thankful for our volunteers for teaching us how to prepare healthy meals, plant and care for a garden, and how to be more patient with our children. You also teach us how to discipline our children in a loving way. We would like to thank you for all the big and small things that you do for us. You have truly impacted our lives in more ways than you know. We wish you a BIG Mama’s House: HAPPY VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION DAY. Thank you for your commitment and dedication. We love and appreciate you.

With love,
